Ardbeg Rare Cask 1989 33 Year Old
33 Years Old | 45.3% ABV | Deep Gold Colour
Ardbeg Distillery changed hands and its doors opened once more. In those days, very little Ardbeg was being distilled. Even less was destined to be bottled as a precious single malt.
Cask 17/1989 is one of the first to be filled when the Ardbeg stills began to sing once more.
Celebrating Ardbeg’s 1989 revival, The Rollercoaster’s second whisky is one of the Distillery’s final casks left from that year. Distilled on 6th December, just weeks after production restarted with malt now supplied by Port Ellen maltings. Its spirit was much more lightly peated than had formerly been traditional for Ardbeg or is today.
Laid down in bourbon barrels and transferred into a refill bourbon cask to enhance its gently peated character.
TASTING NOTES
Aroma
Sooty and drying, with wax crayons, fennel, mustard seed and toasting bread, along with that most distinctive of Ardbeg aromas of pine resin or smoked lime skins. A splash of water releases a creaminess, with a gentle touch of vanilla and smoked pear, along with some briny sea spray.
Taste
A creamy and effervescent texture is followed by a burst of aniseed, toffee, hints of popcorn, smoked paprika and gentle, soothing antiseptic lozenges. The tarry smoke is always present, but always beautifully integrated.
Finish
The finish is long, vibrant and effervescent, with a suggestion of lemon balsam, soot, tar, liquorice and gentle, toasty oak.

Ardbeg Scorch
Ardbeg Scorch Dragon Charred Casks is matured in ex-Bourbon casks charred by the fiery exhale of Dunnage Warehouse 3’s – definitely real and totally not made up – flavor breathing dragon. Intense aromas of soot and smoke like in wait, while grilled fare and black licorice mingle with bold notes of antiseptic lozenge. This truly is a dram of fantastical proportions.
Fragrant patchoulie interlaces with bold notes of quenched steel and saddle soap. Billow clouds of sweet smoke and charred oak permeate the palate, as briar wood, sage and pine wisp their way to the fore.

Ardbeg Seann Chreag 21 Year Old
Ardbeg Seann Chreag 21 Year Old, meaning “ancient rock” in Scots Gaelic, is a tribute to the rugged beauty of Islay’s highest peak, Beinn Bheigier. Aged for 21 years in a blend of Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks, this whisky combines Ardbeg’s signature smoky depth with rich, complex flavors.
With layers that mirror the moonlit ascent of its namesake peak, Seann Chreag offers a captivating experience of tarry smoke, smoldering heather, and hickory-smoked ham, balanced by sweet notes of syrupy figs, nut toffee, and demerara sugar. Master blender Gillian Macdonald describes it as an “older sibling to Ardbeg Uigeadail,” delivering a darker, more intricate profile that will resonate with fans of deeply sherried whiskies. Each sip is an invitation to journey through the untamed spirit of Islay.

Ardbeg The Abyss
There once was a whisky called Ardbeg Corryvreckan Limited Edition. Deep at the heart of that whisky was spirit matured in heavily toasted French oak casks. These were the casks that gave that legendary whisky its hair-raising power.
Only a handful of those historic casks survive to this day. The last remnants of an iconic favourite. Now they return as Ardbeg The Abyss – an exceptionally rare whisky bottled at cask strength 48.4% ABV, and limited to only 400 bottles.
To celebrate this extraordinary moment, we have collaborated with acclaimed comic book artist Tradd Moore to create a limited edition comic to sit alongside the very rare ‘heart of Corryvreckan’ whisky from 1989.
A whisky reborn. Its legend retold. Ardbeg The Abyss is destined to become a legend in its own right. Never to be repeated.
Colour: Deep autumn sunset
Aroma: Rich, pungent and aromatic, but mellow, deep and gentle at the same time. Aromas of toasting marshmallows, aromatic tea leaves, roasted chestnut and baking sourdough bread draw you in, with something altogether zestier circling nearby, like lemon balsam. There is a lingering, background sweetness, like demerara sugar, and then a whiff of antique leather. A splash of water opens up the bouquet to reveal more herbal top notes, with a whisper of lemon sherbet and pine resin.
Taste: A wonderfully mellow mouthfeel with a hint of spiciness, which takes a dramatic turn when bold new flavours enter: dark chocolate, pecan nut toffee, old leather, clove, ginger and a touch of treacle and creosote. The smoke is always there, beautifully entwined with the oak tannins.
Finish: On the aftertaste, enticing hints of baked apple, aniseed and oak.
Ardbeg The Abyss is presented as no whisky has ever been presented before. The whisky and the comic book sit alongside each other within a unique casing, itself inspired by the whirlpool at the heart of the story and the dramatic twists and turns of the whisky’s flavours.
Complete with port holes, gauges and a masterfully-engineered locking mechanism, this extraordinary space-capsule-meets-diving-chamber is itself a journey of discovery and hidden depths.
