A Rare Discovery from Distant Shores, is a beautifully well-rounded spirit with accentuated flavors of ripe fruit and the classic citrus Balvenie style, with a long-lasting finish. This new edition is inspired by the time that The Balvenie Malt Master David C. Stewart’s long-time friend, John Barrett, brought some samples of Caroni Rum to the distillery. In 2014, David decided to move some 20-Year-Old Balvenie from its traditional American oak casks into the ex-Caroni Rum casks, to give the whisky a rum finish unlike any other.

Each whisky is crafted with passion and has its own luxuriously smooth taste, underpinned by the distinctively honeyed character of The Balvenie.

A desire to explore the impact of different casks on our whisky has led Ian McDonald on many adventures over the years – the wonders of wood providing a constant source of exploration and inspiration. This is the story of one particular whisky’s 19-year journey in European sherry oak casks, resulting in a honey-smooth expression, balanced by layers of spice and ripe fruit.

The bottling is comprised of liquids from American and European oak casks aged 50 years or more, selected by Malt Master David Stewart MBE from stocks in The Balvenie Distillery. The Balvenie Fifty: Marriage 0614 continues to incorporate the five casks used in the Marriage 0197, released in 2019, with the addition of liquid from two new casks. The final expression is bottled at 46% ABV.

Every bottle of The Balvenie Fifty: Marriage 0614 is presented in a wooden canister, made from elm trees sourced from the grounds of The Balvenie Distillery. Each cannister is comprised of 50 layers: 48 layers of elm and two of brass, handcrafted by Scottish wood craftsman, Sam Chinnery, at his workshop on Bruntlands Farm near Elgin, Scotland.

The Balvenie Single Barrel Traditional Oak 21 Year Old is a single malt scotch whisky that has been matured exclusively in a refill American oak cask for at least 21 years. Our Malt Master carefully samples the aged whisky, cask by cask. He will only select single malt characterized by the subtle spices and rich honeyed sweetness he expects from maturation in this type of cask to be bottled as The Balvenie Single Barrel Traditional Oak.

The Edge of Burnhead, tells the story of how Balvenie craftsmen experimented with the distillery’s natural resources to find the perfect match between fresh heather and barley.The Edge of Burnhead Wood sums up the spirit of the work carried out at the Balvenie Distillery; The Balvenie remains true to the techniques and stories passed down by its craftsmen from generation to generation, while also looking forward by exploring new techniques, flavours and marriages to develop unique and original Balvenie expressions.” The tale is depicted on the whisky’s packaging with an illustration from British artist Andy Lovell.

The Second Red Rose, is an intense and sweet liquid matured in ex-bourbon American oak casks and then finished in an Australian Shiraz red wine cask. This expression is inspired by an iconic bottling of The Balvenie Rose first released in 2008. The original legendary tale, centered around a rare red rose, began centuries ago when the Fair Maid of Galloway, Margaret Douglas, occupied the Balvenie Castle on Speyside Hill. After the death of her husband, the castle and its estate shifted ownership. Margaret, however, continued to live there, paying the King rent in the form of a single red rose each year. The flower became a symbol not only of intense beauty but that of extreme value; the power of the rose lives on after the castle had been left unoccupied for centuries. The Balvenie Rose was a 16-Year-Old whisky, finished in port pipes that was only available to visitors to The Balvenie distillery.
