Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014
Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 embodies everything an Islay whisky can and should be. As well as adding complexity and depth to this single malt, the Islay grown barley goes beyond just the pursuit of flavour – evoking a true sense of place.
The barley harvest for this 2014 vintage was raised by eight local farmers on Islay; Craig Archibald at Craigens, Ian McKerrell at Island Farm, Raymond Fletcher at Dunlossit, Andrew Jones at Coull, Mark French at Rockside, Raymond Stewart at Sunderland and Islay Estates at Mulindry. These farming partnerships not only help to develop new soil-improving practices and encourage crop diversification but help support the island’s integral agricultural community.
Bottled at 50% ABV and peated to 40 PPM, the maturation profile consists of 84% in first fill bourbon casks, 8% in second fill Virgin oak and 8% in second fill Bordeaux wine casks. With notes of malty digestive biscuits and peat paving the way for a sweet medley of apricot, peach and ripe melon, this 2014 release holds fruit and smoke in perfect balance.
TASTING NOTES
Character: With a quiet complexity, Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 showcases the delicate balance of fruit and smoke which the single malt is renowned for.
Color: Light Amber
Nose: Malty digestive biscuits and peat embers open on the nose, followed by sweet vanilla and notes of honey, toffee and Crème Brûlée. As the whisky breathes its fruity character comes to the fore, with lemon rind and peat smoke rising from the glass, moving to grapefruit, ripe melon, peach and crisp red apple. Port Charlotte’s signature maritime note is offset with a touch of wood spice, nutmeg and cinnamon, showcasing the depth and complexity of this single malt.
Palate: An initial citrus tang is followed by sweet ripe fruit and gentle peat smoke. A subtle marine character comes through, with this sandy minerality complemented with toasted oak. On a second sip, the balance of fruit and smoke is unmistaken, with a medley of apricot, peach and ripe melon delicately wrapped in charred heather and peat embers. The maturation in American bourbon barrels brings lightly toasted oak notes, with a hint of coconut, creamy marzipan and tobacco.
Finish: Soft stoned fruit and toasted oak sweetness leave a beautifully balanced finish, while a subtle, dry barbeque smoke lingers.

Bruichladdich, Scotch Whisky, Peated Scotch, Port Charlotte, Whisky/Whiskey, Single Malt Scotch, Alcohol$109.99Port Charlotte OLC: 01 is one of the most unusual expressions we have released. It’s rarity is two-fold. Few single malts originally start their journey in such a complex combination of casks. Fewer still complete their journey in genuine Oloroso sherry hogsheads from a fine Spanish bodega like Fernando de Castilla. Distilled back in 2010, from the 2009 crop of Scottish Barley, this heavily peated single malt was first filled into an array of ex-bourbon, ex-Syrah and ex-VDN (vin doux naturel) casks. In 2018, this spirit was transferred into a parcel of Oloroso hoggies that arrived at our distillery on the personal recommendation from bodega owner, Jan Pettersen.

Posh Altar is crafted using the highest quality ingredients sourced from local farms, giving each sip a unique and distinctive flavor. Completely natural, Posh Altar is cleaner and purer than other flavored alcohols, infused with locally sourced ingredients like the highest quality vanilla, cacao, and coffee from the region of Chiapas.

We heavily rely on surrounding farmers and the local terroir, sourcing only the finest ingredients to create our unique spirit. Due to our rigorous sourcing techniques, the ingredients we use may vary slightly by year, season, and vintage.
How is Posh Produced?
The traditional production of pox involves the creation of mash from a mixture of corn, wheat, and sugarcane. This mash is then fermented for several days and marks the pivotal moment in developing the original flavor of pox. Once fermentation is complete, the mash undergoes a distillation process to create the final clear and potent liquor. This strong liquor is infused with ingredients from the local flora and masterfully blended to create Posh Altar. Our interpretation is crafted without any wheat, ensuring that it is completely gluten-free.
Ingredients:
Posh is made from a unique blend of corn, sugarcane, and ingredients derived from the native flora of Mexico.
Fermentation:
The ingredients are fermented into a mash utilizing the natural yeasts of the local environment. This fermentation process takes place in wooden/clay vessels and is influenced by traditional techniques passed down through generations.
Distillation:
After fermentation, the mixture is distilled using traditional stills. Some producers may use clay, copper, or other types of stills, further imparting unique characteristics to the spirit.
Local Practices:
This artisanal approach ensures that each batch of pox is unique and retains its cultural authenticity.
