New Riff Malted 6 Year Old Rye Finished in Sherry Casks
We often think of our 100% malted rye whiskey as a malted whiskey first, and a rye whiskey second. The graceful, elegant style of the malted grains shines through first and foremost. Thus, we wondered: how would this malted whiskey perform in sherry casks, as so many global malt whiskeys are traditionally aged? The result: a round, rich, enveloping wave of first-fill sherry oak, followed by a burst of rye spice into the finish.

New Riff Maltster Kentucky Straight Bourbon
For our first Wheated Bourbon, our distillers reached into their brewing background and found inspiration in classic wheat beers. Here we mash three different wheats – Bohemian floor malted wheat, raw wheat, and a measure of gently kilned dark wheat together with our locally grown corn. It’s a new riff on a much-loved Kentucky Bourbon tradition.

New Riff New Make
New Riff New Make is distilled from bourbon mash and bottled at 80 proof. New Riff Distilling is a new riff on an old tradition, that tradition or theme being Kentucky Bourbon. Founded in 2014 by Ken Lewis, a visionary Kentucky liquor retailer and entrepreneur, New Riff is led by a team of corporate refugees ranging from craft beer to politics and more. New Riff crafts a range of whiskeys—Bourbon, Rye, and eventually Malted Rye and a host of specialty recipes—as well as Kentucky Wild Gin. Their mission is simple: to someday be counted among the world’s great small distilleries. Becoming one of the great small distilleries of the world is a long term play, with no exact ring to win, or title to be declared.

New Riff Sour Mash Single Malt Whiskey 2024 Release
In 2024, the second installment of Sour Mash Single Malt Whiskey debuts, featuring a creative blend of mashbills. New Riff, since its early days following its 2014 founding, has been experimenting with malt whiskey. The distillery began producing its initial batches within months of opening, carefully filling barrels at 110 proof and allowing them to age in the Northern Kentucky environment.
For this release, the blend revisits the same mashbills as the original, which involved barrels aged between 7 and 8 years. However, this edition raises the bar with barrels aged for 9 years and introduces malt whiskey aged in Madeira casks.
Bottled at 114.5 proof without chill filtration, the 2024 Sour Mash Single Malt Whiskey features a mashbill composed entirely of different barley varieties—Golden Promise, Maris Otter, and Scottish peated barley malt—alongside two beer-inspired mashbills modeled after traditional Barleywine and Belgian Quadrupel recipes.

New Scotland Spirits Helderberg Winter Wheat Whiskey
The winters are cold in New Scotland.
From November till March, the Town sleeps through long nights under deep blankets of snow; only the crackle of wood stoves and fireplaces intrude on the airy stillness.
It’s during these dark months that New Scots congregate over bottles of Helderberg Winter Wheat Whiskey, toasting to fellowship in their special little corner of upstate New York. All the while, the red winter wheat planted the autumn before lies dormant in the frozen soils of Lime Kiln Farm.
In time, New Scotland’s crisp moonlit pastures will again come alive, trading their snowy fleeces for the green trappings of spring. An evening symphony of peeper frogs will welcome the first lightning bugs’ twilight fireworks, as the ears of winter wheat poke aboveground.
Once harvested and distilled, the grain will then begin its half-decade journey from barrel to bottle, to once more warm our neighbors with a glow. For the winters are cold in New Scotland, and we wouldn’t have it otherwise.
