This Mizunara Exclusive Cask has been chosen to celebrate the 150th year of The Open at St Andrews and our proud relationship with golf’s oldest, most prestigious tournament. We raise a dram to all those who have had the honor of playing and contributing to this very special tournament over the years.

Like the Open itself, this whisky has taken an incredible journey, distilled in 1993 from our traditional Swan Stills and starting its life in American Oak casks. Michael Henry, our Master Blender, hand-selected this whisky to take a different path, finishing it in Mizunara Oak which is a species native to Japan. These casks are quite rare and require social crafting as Mizunara Oak Tress take around 200 years to fully mature and have a softer more delicate nature.

You can expect rich orchard fruits on the palate, with a tropical influence of coconut, banana, and toasted oak from Mizunara casks, with a melted brown sugar sweetness on the finish. It is non-chilled filtered, to keep things just as nature intended.

This expression celebrates the significant milestone of the Open with The 150th Championship at the world-famous ‘Home of Golf’, the old course, St Andrews. Michael Henry, our Master Blender, has crafted this expression with Colin Montgomerie to create a whisky worthy of this very special year and momentous occasion.

The Open Course Edition Single Malt uses a combination of whisky from our unique straight neck pot stills and more traditional swan neck stills, aged in American Oak casks for 19 years, to create the signature fruit, honey and soft smoke style only found in Loch Lomond Single Malt Whisky.

Michael has then chosen to finish this whisky for an additional 36 months in the finest Haut-Médoc Claret Barriques, which have been carefully maintained by our skilled cooperage, then bottled at 48.2% cask strength. The result is an elegant rich whisky that has notes of stewed apple, pear, and black cherry with vanilla and dark chocolate and a warming ginger spice and wood smoke finish.

Distilled in our remarkable stills, at a range of strengths then matured in casks that have been expertly crafted by our own cooperage, creating a complex whisky that showcases our capability in distilling and our unrivaled ability in flavor creation.

The influence of the manzanilla butts in maturation create an additional rich nuttiness and salted caramel layer on the Loch Lomond signature style, resulting in a whisky that has notes of baked apple, nutmeg, lime, cinnamon, with hints of marzipan and toasted oak on the finish.

This expression celebrates the 152nd Open at Royal Troon, this finely crafted whisky perfectly showcases the Loch Lomond Distillery’s adeptness and ingenuity in whisky making a worthy tribute to the people, players, and courses throughout the history of the Open that this whisky celebrates.

The Open Special Edition Single Malt uses a combination of whisky from our remarkable straight neck pot stills and more traditional swan neck stills, aged in American oak casks, to create the signature fruit, honey and soft smoke style only found in Loch Lomond Single Malt Whisky. A range of casks are then hand-selected for finishing in 1st fill chardonnay wine casks to complement our signature distillery style with additional depth of flavor, these exceptional chardonnay wine casks help craft subtle whisky that has notes of honey blossom, vibrant orchard fruit and toasted oak that perfectly complements the soft smoke on the finish.

The Open Special Edition is matured in a combination of first-fill bourbon and refill American oak casks to ensure the perfect balance of vibrant peach, pear, and creamy vanilla oak. Maple syrup adds some background sweetness before subtle peat smoke emerges giving a sublime balance to the finish.

The Open Special Edition Single Malt uses a combination of whisky from our unique straight neck pot stills and more traditional swan neck stills, aged in American Oak casks, to create the signature fruit, honey, and soft smoke style only found in Loch Lomond Single Malt whisky. A range of casks are then hand-selected for finishing in Grand Reserva Rioja Alta casks to complement our signature distillery style with additional depth of flavor. These rich, exceptional red wine casks help create a whisky that has notes of red berry, orchard fruit, and creamy vanilla with dark chocolate that complements the soft smoke on the finish.

Master Blender Michael Henry has created a whisky with a character inspired by this place. Bringing together spirit distilled exclusively in our swan neck stills and a cognac cask finish, to create a whiskey that is worthy of exploration and a fitting tribute to its natural beauty. Matured in three kinds of ex-bourbon American oak casks before finishing its floor journey for 12 months in ex-cognac casks. This whisky captures exploration and depth in every drop.
