Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu 2021 US Edition
In 2007, Ichiro Akuto, the grandson of the founder of the Hanye Distillery, started a new chapter in Japan’s whisky history by building Chichibu Distillery. Situated in Saitama prefecture around 79km northwest of Tokyo, production began in February 2008. Equipment includes a small mill, a mash tun, washbacks made of Japanese Oak, and a pair of small copper pot stills manufactured by Forsyths of Scotland. Several different cask types are used including bourbon barrels, sherry butts, and hogsheads, all matured in the unique nature of Chichibu.

Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu The Peated 2022
It all started some three centuries ago when the first of Ichiro Akuto’s forefathers began making alcoholic beverages in Saitama Prefecture. His Grandfather began making whisky in the mid 1940’s with Hanyu Distillery, whose focus on malt whiskies took off with the Japanese economic boom of the 1980’s. However, when the bubble burst in the 1990’s, so too did the first Japanese Whisky boom, leading to Hanyu, like several other distillers, shuttering their doors. He saved the old inventory of Hanyu and released the playing card series. A slow start in the early 2000s now unicorn whisky, the stuff of legend. With the success of the playing cards Ichiro saw that the revival was imminent and in 2008 he built his current distillery in Chichubu. Chichubu distillery where Ichiro, a 21st century whisky maker embraces the heritage and heart of the Scotts balanced by the precision of the Japanese and the shokunin philosophy.

In Flames IKON No. 13 500ml
The characteristic scent of classic gin lies as a basis with a soft hint of citrus. IKON has a classic gin character of juniper berries, coriander, lemon peel, cinnamon, cardamom and elder flowers. For a richer and more complex taste profile, lead singer Anders Fridén chose to raise the alcohol content to 43%. As an additional top note there lies a splash of orange zest and lemongrass that has been carefully macerated and then added to the distilled gin.
IKON is the band’s way of introducing craft gin as a high-quality drink, where Fridén has been hands-on in every step of the process.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: Spicy with highlighted aromas of juniper, lemon-peel, cinnamon and pink pepper
