We also use minimal filtration and never chill-filter and of our whiskies, because we believe it removes many of the wonderful characteristics that the barrel adds to the spirit

We leave the honey there for a minimum of 60 days. Then we remove the honey from the barrel and replace it with 53 gallons of the finest straight rye whiskey. The rye stays in the barrels for a minimum of another 90 days so it can absorb the honey as well as take on a bit more charred oak barrel flavor. We came across its distinctive wrapping while researching the history of distilling in the Commonwealth. While it’s not clear exactly when the brand disappeared, it was likely a casualty of Prohibition, one of many independent marks decimated by that misguided calamity. Hooten Young was founded by former Special Operations Soldier, Master Sgt. Norm Hooten and Tim Young. Notably known for his portrayal by Eric Bana in the film Black Hawk Down, Hooten is a true American hero. While retired from active military duty, he continues to work with veterans today as a full-time health care provider.

Both Hooten and Young have partnered with their closest friends, including Master Sommelier George Miliotes, to create an American Whiskey to honor the brave men and women of the armed forces.

Rare distillation and barrel aging practices, coupled with over a decade’s rest, have produced an American Whiskey with notes of maple, vanilla, ripe apple and a long smooth finish. The whiskey is aged 12 years and made with a 99% corn and 1% barley malt. It’s distilled at 170 proof and put into second fill American oak barrels.
